The Alternative Education School at Dodge City Public Schools is designed to meet the needs of students who are not succeeding in the traditional setting or adult learners seeking a high school diploma. Students receive a variety of learning opportunities leading to graduation. While each Alternative Education Program is different, they share characteristics identified in the research as common to successful alternative schools: -
Small class sizes 1/10 -
Learning Program designed to meet the needs of the individual student. -
Clearly stated mission and discipline code -
Flexible school schedule with community involvement and support -
School staff having high expectations for student success. The Alternative Education Program includes: Dane Hansen Youthville School (grades 4th -12th), Second Opportunity School, G.E.D./Alternative Diploma Program, Therapeutic Education Center, Adult Education, Project C.H.O.I.C.E, Virtual Learning and Night School. To promote the education development of each program, the Alternative Education Principal works closely with the Special Education Coop, Area Mental Health, Methodist Youthville, community, staff, and administration of U.S.D.
