Still is an excellent fit for the position; he was the assistant principal and athletic director for five years and a classroom teacher for eight years. In 2018, he was named Kansas Regional Teacher of the Year.

Before his years in the classroom, Mr. Still held various roles in the district, including recess monitor, paraprofessional, substitute teacher, and soccer coach. Gilbert credits his favorite elementary teachers, Mrs. York and Mrs. Cullens, for his career in education. They both showed an interest in him as a person and developed meaningful relationships that impacted his young life. Every day Mr. Still strives to make a positive difference in students' lives by inspiring hope and empowering them to achieve their goals and dreams - much like his Sunnyside Elementary teachers did for him.

Gilbert Still received his Associate of Arts from Dodge City Community College and his Bachelor of Science in education and Master of Education in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in English as a second language from Newman University. In December 2017, he earned his Building Leadership License and is now enrolled in classes for a Specialist in Education Degree (Ed.S) in education administration.

Gilbert is married to his beautiful wife Ashley and has one son and two puppies. They love hiking in Colorado and attending Sporting Kansas City soccer games.  He said, "Dodge City Middle School has an amazing staff that goes above and beyond for their students and families, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue to work alongside the Cardinal Nation staff."

According to Matt Turner, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, “Gilbert has demonstrated his passion for the students and staff at DCMS. His leadership and high expectations will continue to foster a culture that supports all areas of student and staff achievement”.
