We are excited to share that Shawn Steiner will be taking on the role of Dodge City High School Athletic Director. He is set to officially start on July 1, 2025, as Jay Gifford retires from the position. He has been in USD 443 for 21 years and has served as the Activities Director for the past nine years.
Steiner began his career coaching football, wrestling, and baseball and has also been the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal for eight years. Additionally, he has been on the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Board of Directors for two years, served as the President of the Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association in the 2023-2024 school year, and has managed the KSHSAA state championships for several sports.
Shawn is married to Heather, and they have two children: Tatum, a high school senior planning to play softball at Butler Community College, and Easton, a sophomore involved in football, swimming, golf, and choir. In his spare time, Shawn enjoys spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, watching sports, and traveling with his family.
“I am confident in the choice we’ve made,” shared Martha Mendoza, High School Principal. “I’ve worked alongside Mr. Steiner and have seen firsthand how deeply he cares about our students’ success and values every program. We are in good hands!”
Dr. Dierksen stated, “Shawn is well known across the state and has received numerous awards and recognitions that reflect his strong character and leadership. As a former accomplished athlete, he understands the value of hard work and is committed to creating similar opportunities for our students. Having him lead our programs is a win for Dodge City Schools.”
