DCHS Welcomes Briggs as New Activities Director!

Dodge City Public Schools is proud to announce the selection of Justin Briggs as the new Activities Director for the high school, effective July 1, 2025.

Briggs brings more than 25 years of educational experience and a strong background in both athletics and administration.  Throughout his career, he has served as a Physical Education and Weight Training instructor at both the elementary and secondary levels, and has coached football, basketball, and track. Recently, he has held the dual role of Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at Comanche Middle School.

A native of Cimarron, Kansas, Briggs received his bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Plains College in 1993 and went on to complete a master’s degree in educational leadership from Kansas State University in 2009.

Professionally, Briggs has been an active leader in school athletics across the state, serving on both the Kansas Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (KIAAA) Board of Directors and the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Executive Board.

Outside of school, Justin is a proud father and grandfather. His family includes four children: Brandon and Brenna, both graduates of Dodge City High School, and stepsons, Wyatt and Blake, graduates of Spearville High School, as well as eight grandchildren.

“We’re excited to have Justin Briggs step in as the new Activities Director at Dodge City High School,” said Shawn Steiner, newly selected DCHS Athletic Director, “With his background as both a Head Coach and Administrator in the district, he knows what it takes to support students while building quality programs.  Justin is eager to get started working with our staff.  He brings experience that is a great fit for our school community.”
