DCHS Students Qualify for Two National Championship Tournaments
Dodge City High School Forensics and Debate is thrilled to announce that three of our students have qualified for the prestigious National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament: Katie Klecker (Senior) and Adeline Robinson (Sophomore) in Duo Interpretation, and Eli Klenke (Senior) in Humorous Interpretation. Emilea Klenke (Freshman) and Arianna Solis (Junior) will also be competing in Supplemental Events at the tournament. This year’s tournament is in Des Moines, Iowa, this June. The NSDA is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, so the event will be extra celebratory. As one of the largest organizations in the country, the national championships will include 6,700 students from 1,500 schools competing to be one of the just 42 Champions in the many events of the tournament.
To qualify for the NSDA, students must compete in a Regional Qualifier and finish in 1st or 2nd place. They competed at Newton High School in the West Kansas Regional Qualifier earlier this month.
Additionally, three of the students, Katie Klecker, Adeline Robinson, and Emilea Klenke, will compete in the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) in Kansas City this May. To qualify for the NIETOC, students must compete in specific, usually large, qualifying tournaments and place high enough to earn a bid. They can only earn one bid in each event at a tournament, so they must place high in two tournaments to qualify for the NIETOC.
Their success is a testament to the strength of our program and another instance of DCHS students doing great things. We are immensely proud and hope you will join us in congratulating them!
Next up for DCHS Forensics is the Kansas State Championships, May 2nd-3rd.
