School Board

Our school board is dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence and personal growth in a safe and supportive setting.

As elected representatives of our community, we are committed to making informed decisions that shape the future of our schools. Our responsibilities include:

  • Policy Development: Crafting and implementing policies that promote high educational standards and equity.
  • Budget Oversight: Ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to support student learning and well-being.
  • Superintendent Supervision: Collaborating with and providing oversight for the Superintendent to ensure the district's strategic goals are met.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Evaluating and approving curricula that meet the diverse needs of our students and prepare them for future success.
  • Facilities Management: Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of school facilities to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation from parents, students, teachers, and community members to foster a collaborative educational community.

General Information:

  • The Unified School District 443 Board of Education is comprised of seven (7) local citizens elected at-large.
  • Members serve four-year staggered terms. Currently, four (4) expire in 2026 and three (3) expire in 2028.
  • Terms run for four years, with the new Board seated at the first meeting in January.
  • As required by state law, members serve without compensation.

Board Goals:

  • The Board of Education is committed to periodically drafting and reviewing progress toward goals for the Board of Education and for the welfare of the District.

Public Meetings:

  • Board meetings are scheduled on the second and typically the fourth Monday of each month.  See District Calendar for Specific Dates.
  • Comprehensive, fully searchable, Board of Education Policies are available online.
  • Regular meetings will begin at 6 p.m. CT in the Board Room at the District Office Building located at 2112 1st Avenue, unless otherwise noted.
  • The second meetings of the month are held at 12 Noon at school sites. See calendar for locations. 
  • The Board invites community participation to comment on items not included on the agenda at the beginning of each meeting. There will be opportunities for public comment on items appearing on the agenda after the BOE has discussed those particular items. Patrons are asked to keep comments brief.
  • Evening board meetings are shared via district YouTube Channel @ Dodge City Public Schools. For more information about the Board of Education, please call (620) 371-1070.

Agendas:

  • The Board prepares an agenda for each regular meeting. To be included on the electronic notification list, please email Erin Akers at akers.erin@usd443.org
  • If you do not have regular access to email, you may request paper copy of the agenda by writing:

  • Agendas are generally available the Thursday prior to the Board meeting by 5 p.m.

Participate

All are welcome to attend school board meetings.

Meetings held on the 2nd Monday are held at the District Offices at 2112 1st Avenue in the Board Room at 6 p.m.

Meetings held on the 4th Monday are held in the schools at 12 noon.

All evening board meetings are LiveStreamed on the district YouTube Channel – Dodge City Public Schools.
