Victor Guerrero named Executive Director of Information Technologies

Victor Guerrero-Vazquez’s journey into technology began in high school, where he wrote simple Java programs that sparked his lifelong passion for solving problems and supporting others through innovation. Born in Mexico City, Mexico, Victor moved with his family to Dodge City when he was three years old. He attended Dodge City Public Schools and is now a proud alumnus of Dodge City High School. In 2024, he became a U.S. citizen. His story reflects perseverance and purpose, grounded in his deep commitment to the community that shaped him.
Victor started his career with Dodge City Public Schools in 2014 as a Computer Technician I and advanced into leadership roles through years of dedication and service. He worked as a Computer Technician II and then as Co-IT Supervisor building on his belief in lifelong learning and the importance of staying open-minded. “I’ve learned that I don’t have to know everything—but I do have to stay curious and always willing to grow,” he says.
Now, as Executive Director of Information Technology, Victor feels proud of how far the department has come and where it’s headed. He led the deployment of ClassLink, one of his most impactful projects, which improved access to digital tools for students and staff. “When technology works well, our team goes unnoticed—that’s the goal,” he explains. “We want our teachers’ skills to shine and our students’ learning to flourish.”
Victor fosters open and transparent communication within his team and across the district. He focuses on continuing pilot programs that include teacher feedback, improving real-time communication about department work, and reinforcing a service-first mindset. “Our team puts teachers first. We’re always willing to help,” he says. Jason Scheck, Superintendent of Schools shared, “I am pleased to announce the promotion of Victor Guerrero to the role of Executive Director of Information Technology. In his previous role as Co-Supervisor, Victor demonstrated exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to advancing the district’s technology infrastructure and support systems. This promotion recognizes his strong contributions to our mission and affirms our confidence in his ability to lead our technology initiatives with vision, integrity, and innovation.”
Outside of work, Victor finds joy in his family and his passion for running. He and his wife, Amy, Assistant Director of the Boot Hill Museum, are raising two sons: 14-year-old Alejandro “AJ” and 7-year-old Ezekiel. Victor is also a marathon runner, and the Kansas City Garmin Marathon remains his favorite race so far.
Victor feels motivated by the role technology plays in helping students and staff reach their academic and professional goals. “I see Dodge City leading the way in meaningful, relevant tech integration,” he says. “It’s an honor to help make that happen.”
