What is the learning topic/goal(s)? What need(s) does this meet & for whom?

  • KMEA provides over 150 clinics and 40 performances during 3 days applying to all K-12 music education. There are sessions geared towards elementary music, choir, band, jazz, orchestra, general music, SEL in music, curriculum/pacing, and more. There are built in times to collaborate and network with other music staff across the state and region. There is also an exhibit hall with instruments, sheet music, manipulatives, fundraising opportunities, uniforms, etc to explore or purchase.

How is this learning aligned to state, district, &/or building goals?

  • Each national music standard will be addressed throughout in-service workshop. Once the clinic schedule is released in January, it will include the standard(s) being covered for each individual clinic.

  • Academic goal 2 – helps music continue to strengthen our teaching of our curriculum and experience different cultural perspectives in music.

What data will be used to determine need & monitor progress? How will it be used?

  • The only content specific professional development available during the school year. It is the state conference for all music education.
  • We can come back to our classrooms and immediately begin implementing new ideas, strategies and potentially manipulatives (if purchased).

  • Initial Activity (Level 1)
    • KMEA In-service Workshop - February 23-25, 2023
  • Supporting Activity (Level 2)
    • Collaboration Wednesdays new ideas can be shared. PD time new information can be shared.

What is the anticipated impact on teachers? On students?

  • Interim Outcome(s)
    • Continuing education in their specific content, inspiration, and rejuvenation in their enjoyment of music education. Teachers can gain further understanding or widen their exposure to music literature and performance possibilities.
  • Final Outcome(s)
    • Improving instruction, deepening understanding of music concepts, being better performers, and ultimately elevating our music experiences in the daily classroom.
