What is the learning topic/goal(s)? What need(s) does this meet & for whom?

  • 46% of students in our district are considered English Learners. Included in this percentage is an increasing population of Trilingual students. These students are not progressing at the expected/desired rate as our monolingual/bilingual speakers, therefore we are looking for alternative and or additional pedagogical and program design solutions.

How is this learning aligned to state, district, &/or building goals?

  • Current district initiatives encompass the need for Culturally Responsive Instruction including Biography Driven Instruction that is centered around the assets that our Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students possess. District Initiatives include:
    • DSAP Goals on CRI and BSEL
    • Individual Learning Plans
    • LiNK Grant
    • MO4IVO5 Grant

Data-driven
What data will be used to determine need & monitor progress? How will it be used?

  • Data such as KELPA, IPT, and student artifacts will be used to determine students’ progress towards English proficiency. Language progress monitoring occurs three times per year for students identified as needing language intervention. This data is used to drive instruction both within and out of language intervention. Additionally, staff feedback surveys will be utilized to determine need and progress.
  • ESOL Staff will review the data listed above when reflecting on and revising ESOL program support.

How will the learning take place? How will the learning be supported?

  • Initial Activity (Level 1)
    • The ESOL Director and ESOL Instructional Coach will attend the conference.
  • Supporting Activity (Level 2)
    • ESOL Staff will look to modify and/or enhance ESOL programs to align with best practices and ideas learned at the conference.

Results-driven
What is the anticipated impact on teachers? On students?

  • Interim Outcome(s)
    • ESOL Staff will reflect on learning that took place at the conference and how it aligns to district ESOL programs.
  • Final Outcome(s)
    • ESOL Staff will be able to identify adjustments and/or enhancements to ESOL programming along with teacher/student feedback/artifacts that support the adjustments.
