Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services

PART I.

(A) Universal and correct wearing of masks. 
Face Coverings/Masks will not be required. This mask practice is only effective for USD 443 buildings/activities and does not supersede other district mask policies, league rules, or KSHSAA requirements.

(B) Modifying facilities to allow for physical distancing. 
Physical distancing as feasible implemented with in-person instruction in classrooms. 

(C) Handwashing and respiratory etiquette. 
Hand washing/sanitizing will be done at regular intervals throughout the school day.

(D) Cleaning and maintaining healthy facilities, including improving ventilation. 
The sharing of school supplies/materials will be done with consideration of least risk for transmission. Hand sanitizers will be available in classrooms. 

(E) Contact tracing in combination with isolation and quarantine, in collaboration with the State, local, territorial, or Tribal health departments. 
Conduct internal contact tracing measures in collaboration with local health officials. In such a situation, it is critical to maintain confidentiality of the student or staff member as required by the American with Disabilities Act and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.

(F) Diagnostic and screening testing. 
All staff and families are encouraged to monitor symptoms and take temperatures prior to arriving at school. 

(G) Efforts to provide vaccinations to school communities. 
USD 443 administration will meet with local medical professionals and the county health officer to discuss ways to educate stakeholders on the importance of vaccinations. 

(H) Appropriate accommodations for children with disabilities with respect to health and safety policies. 
Students with disabilities will receive their typical support and programming. Support will continue for students with special needs or are medically vulnerable. 

(I) Coordination with State and local health officials. 
USD 443 administration will meet as needed with local medical professionals and the county health officer to review cases, county, and building gating measures and thresholds used for implementation of possible mitigation measures. All measures will be reviewed having the health and safety of our students and staff as our top priority.

Part II. 

  • Services to address students’ academic needs. 

Summer School at no cost to families. Continue high school credit retrieval summer sessions at no cost to families and add an academic coach at high school for support during the school year with on-track to graduate. Offer summer credit recovery for math and ELA at the middle school. Offer K-5 summer school across the district. Continue SIT/GEIT process. Offer afterschool academic support for students. Continue proven and effective tech tools and programs used to connect and strengthen family relationships.

  • Students’ and staff social, emotional, mental health. 

Improve consistency in documenting SEL data. Be intentional with analyzing data to identify needs of students; administer a screener for SEL. Plan PD in the areas identified in the student data. Align PreK SEL curriculum to K-12 system. The district leadership team continues BSEL (Behavior Social Emotional Learning) as a priority, focus area as we move through the MTSS process with the external TASN team.

  • Other needs, which may include student health and food services. 

Provide quality food service to families under the guidelines established at the state and federal level. Increase health services with the addition of staff and one current staff designated (Safety Security Director) to lead health services related to overall health and well being of students and staff.
