David Miller Appointed as New Director of Safety and Security

Dodge City Public Schools is excited to announce the appointment of David Miller as our new Director of Safety and Security. David brings a wealth of experience and expertise in law enforcement and national security, having served with the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). His distinguished career is highlighted by his commitment to safety and his dedication to protecting our communities. Having lived in Japan and traveled throughout Europe and the US, David understands the diverse needs of our students, staff, and families. He holds degrees in Social Sciences and Criminal Justice, coupled with a background in Military Intelligence during his service in the Kansas Army National Guard.
David’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as we continue to enhance our safety protocols and ensure a secure environment for everyone in our schools. He is passionate about fostering a safe learning atmosphere and is eager to extend his knowledge to our district. In his words, “I am thankful for the opportunity to continue the process of ensuring the safety of students, staff, and visitors at our district facilities and events.”
Beyond his professional commitments, David enjoys spending time with his family, whether it’s playing board games, billiards, or foosball, or enjoying some friendly competition on the PlayStation. An avid foodie, he loves exploring new culinary delights and values his moments on the back deck with his dogs.
David will be working closely with Shawn Lampe, our current Director of Safety and Security, who will be retiring in October. Shawn has established a strong foundation and we are appreciative of his years of service. As Jason Scheck, Superintendent of Schools, stated, “The safety and security of our students and staff is of paramount importance. We are confident that David’s extensive experience and leadership will significantly enhance our district’s commitment to providing a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for all.”
Please join us in welcoming David Miller to our school district. For further inquiries or to learn more about our safety initiatives, please contact Kerri Baker at baker.kerri@usd443.org. Together, let’s work towards a safer future for our students!
